Tragedy, Rental Debt and Second Chances

A man had successfully held his own tenancy for nearly a year. Unfortunately, due to a miscommunication with his housing support provider, he fell into rental debt and arrears.

In the past three months, his mental health worsened. The main reason being the tragic loss of his immediate family in a car accident three years ago. He declined counselling support, and his increasing reliance on alcohol contributed to further instability. This led to a short prison sentence.

The housing provider informed him that unless his arrears were paid in full, they would not be able to hold the property for him while he served his sentence. This meant he would be released from prison into homelessness. When Mobilise learned of his situation, we stepped in. We paid off his arrears in full, ensuring that he would have a safe and stable home to return to upon release — a crucial foundation for rebuilding his life.
